Stedelijk Museum CS is accommodated on the second and third storeys of the striking high-rise on the Oosterdokskade (former building of The Post Group). There it has at its disposal 6000 m˛ including an entry hall, museum shop, coffee corner and educational space, and space for technical support and storage.

Zwarts & Jansma, Architects, drew up the plans that made it possible for a former mail distribution centre to be used as a museum. Bureau Experimental Jetset covered the graphic design.

Both a permanent presentation of the collection and a changing programme of exhibitions and activities will be seen in Stedelijk Museum CS. One of the first spearheads was the large exhibition of furniture in the Stedelijk-collection from the period 1850 to 2004, with emphasis on the oeuvres of contemporaries Piet Kramer and Gerrit Rietveld. In addition, the Museum opened with a number of presentations of young contemporary artists from The Netherlands and abroad.

The ‘old’ Stedelijk on the Museumplein has been closed since January 1, 2004. According to plans, the doors will open there again in December 2009. The offices and depots, and the Museum’s library, open to the public, will for the time being continue to be located at Deccaweg 26, near Sloterdijk Station.
